A 220t in the Tasman Sea?


NZCG was awarded the contract by Transfield Worley to mobilize a 220t mobile crane from New Plymouth to the Maui A platform. The Grove GMK6220L crane with a boom length of 72 metre, was needed to replace the vent stack structure.
The Project took 2 years of preparation, including a trial assembly/disassembly & test lift of the crane on shore. The operation took place in a 24/7 setting, where marginal weather conditions gave limited slots for safe lifting.
